The weather forecasters predicted a typical Selection Shoot weekend for Nuthampstead - however, they were proved to be very wrong. Everyone attending this shoot benefitted from wall to wall sunshine for most of the time with the odd cloud making conditions not quite as good, and the rain stayed away! There were a few dissappointments in the camp with personal performances, but the whole event ran very smoothly with shooting starting at 10am and finishing by 3.15pm on both days. There were 89 competitors, one short of a full 15 squads on both days. The results are as follows: High Gun: JOHN WINN 193 Class A: 1st I Ainsley 190; 2nd= R.J. Sutton & R. Wade 189; 4th= N. A magnificent turn out of 119 competitors, enjoyed a rare 2008 British Summer bank holiday weekend. The scores were fantastic and Nicky nearly wore out her red pen with the number of 'straights' on the score board! A wonderful hog roast followed shooting, enjoyed by everyone looking at the empty plates! Abigail (nee Wensley) sang, ably supported by Mike Wensley throughout the evening - she has a terrific voice and treated us to a lovely evening. She very kindly did it for no financial reward. We wish Abigail every success in her career of singing. Rod Gould held his nerve and shot 100 straight on Saturday and started with a 25 straight on Sunday, whilst Kevin Borley started his sequence of straights on his 100 target round and shot an amazing 150 atraight including a final. This 2 day event has become a regular feature on the Double Trap calendar. The good weather conditions reflected excellent scores and for some, personal best and army MQS scores. Saturday 13th September 1st Steven Scott 142 + 48 2nd Matt French 141 + 47 3rd Stephen Walton 141 + 44 4th Chester Cobb 139 + 44 + 22 5th Sam Wathen 138 + 45 + 21 6th Stephen Shirley 137 + 41 After shooting had finished, a BBQ contributed by Derek Stewart who supplied the venison (together with Martin) ably cooked by Richard Shirley and Steve Cobb. The traditional fun and games followed, including football, rifle shooting at beer cans, cricket and rugby. Not too many injuries this year, however Derek managed to pull some muscles! A competitive match of pool followed at the Woodman Inn. Our thanks go to our inhouse security guards for the weekend - Mark Rees and his girls Paddy and Tilly, who bravely fought off Pikies trying to steel diesel from the generator in the early hours of Sunday. Sunday 14th September - BRITISH GRAND PRIX 1st Mark Rees 141 + 47 Mark also collects a new Beretta gun as a loyalty prize 2nd Stephen Walton 138 + 48 3rd Matt French 137 + 46 4th Tim Kneale 137 + 44 + 2 5th Sam Wathen 137 + 44 + 1 6th Chester Cobb 135 + 45 David Wathen gave a humurous closing speech, followed by a presentation of medals and trophies by Ian Coley. The English Open Olympic Trap competition was held over the weekend of 7th and 8th June at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground. 63 competitors fielded 11 squads - dissapointing, but considering a lot of people were competing in Portugal and Germany the same weekend the entry was not too bad. The weather conditions were good on the whole and on Sunday we were treated to some glorious sunshine and ice cream weather. The flash final was shot with single barrel: Ian Belcher, J.
